"Respect"
(American Bison) Limited Edition
There is a buffalo ranch near where I live. There were about 30 buffalo there when I stopped to get a closer look. I had seen these amazing animals often, and one day I was able to approach the fence and photograph them relatively close-up. A pretty big one approached me, and I froze. He looked at me with curiosity, and obviously no fear. I looked at him with awe and respect. His mere presence, so close, was breathtaking. I tried to capture both my awe and his indifference in the painting.
Some day, I will paint the mamas and babies.
An interesting thing about the prints of this painting is that an aura showed up that looked like radiating energy around the animal. The effect was caused by wrinkles in the bark paper on the original, which happened as the paint dried. Completely unintentional, but it is a very cool effect for a painting of such a powerful animal.
Designer's note: Lots of artists have a logo or some symbol that is always part of their art, found somewhere on each work. Larry doesn't always do that, but the buffalo is the very first piece to include a lobster. She is almost hidden in the bark paper inclusions, but she's there. Lobsters are very good at hiding! Click on "About the Artist" to find out the significance of the lobster.
"Respect" prints are limited edition. Only 250 full-sized prints will be sold, and no other sizes will be available.
