"The Guardian"
(grizzly bear) Limited Edition
I live in Sandpoint, Idaho, about 60 miles from the Canadian border. I was on a fishing trip down in the Lewiston, Idaho area with my friend Corey and when we stopped for gas I realized I didn’t have any money. I asked Corey what he would trade for a tank of gas, and he told me that his wife, Carolyn, would be having a birthday soon. He said she likes bears and would love a painting of a grizzly. So, Carolyn got the grizzly bear painting for her birthday.
For this painting, I chose Kasuiri (handmade paper from Japan). I like the paper because of the bark inclusions. Animals and nature blend in together, like camouflage, I guess.
Grizzly bears fascinate me, because of their character, or personality.
I started the painting with a light pencil sketch of his eyes. The eyes, I hope, capture the mood of the whole painting. I try to do this with all animals and people. The Guardian is an expression of power, struggle, and the inner strength of both males and females.
"The Guardian" prints are limited edition. Only 250 full-size prints will be sold, and no other sizes will be available.
